Madeline practices in all areas of workplace law with a focus on human rights and all aspects of the litigation process, with a particular interest in injunctions. She has appeared before the British Columbia Supreme Court, the Federal Court, the British Columbia Human Rights Tribunal and the British Columbia Labour Relations Board. Madeline also regularly presents to employers and other lawyers on key issues in workplace law.
Prior to her legal career, Madeline obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from McGill University and her Master’s of Social Work at the University of Toronto. She then practiced as a therapist and advocate with children and youth experiencing sexual and physical abuse. Madeline’s professional background has informed her belief that workplace issues are fundamentally personal issues requiring individualized solutions. She credits her social work background for her ability to be a thoughtful listener and an intuitive problem-solver.
While attending law school at the University of Victoria, Madeline spent a clinical term at the Law Centre providing legal representation to underserved clients, acted as a peer tutor and teaching assistant, and was a finalist at the National Canadian Client Consultation Competition. She also volunteered with Pro Bono Students Canada and Access Pro Bono. In recognition of her achievements, Madeline received the Blake, Cassels & Graydon First Year Achievement Prize, the Lars Alfred Lindholm Memorial Scholarship for academic excellence in employment law, the Guild Yule LLP Advocacy Scholarship and the Ronald S. Nairne Memorial Award.
