BC Government Announces Increase in Minimum Wage

The BC government has announced that the minimum wage under the Employment Standards Act will be increased in two stages. On November 1 2000, the hourly minimum wage will increase from the current $7.15 per hour to $7.60 per hour. On November 1 2001, it will rise again to $8 per hour. Rates for live-in home support workers, live in camp leaders and resident caretakers in apartment buildings will also increase, as will piece rates for certain hand-harvested agricultural crops.
