Essential Services Ruling for City of Vancouver

July 20, 2007
Share

The BC Labour Relations Board has decided essential services designations in the event of a strike by employees of the City of Vancouver represented by CUPE Locals 15 and 1004. The City’s “outside” workers have given strike notice effective Thursday, July 19, 2007.

The parties agreed through mediation to most of their essential service schedules, including engineering services, beach safety, and emergency work that cannot be performed by qualified exempt personnel. The Board’s July 16, 2007 decision addresses the outstanding issues between the parties including services for non-market housing and kitchen operations at Carnegie Centre and the Gathering Place.
