Private Sector Privacy Oversight: Canadian Commissioners Renew Agreement

January 19, 2012
Share

Three years after signing an original Memorandum of Understanding in 2008, the Privacy Commissioners of Canada, BC and Alberta have renewed their commitment to work collaboratively in carrying out their mandates to enforce privacy laws in the private sector.

In a revised Memorandum, the Commissioners have pledged to continue collaborating in the areas of policy, enforcement, public education and compliance. The Memorandum reflects the Commissioners’ ongoing intention to share the combined resources of their respective Offices, reduce overlap and inefficiencies, and ensure consistency in the oversight of private sector privacy. The revised Memorandum also clarifies how the Commissioners will share information in carrying out their duties.

The revised Memorandum can be found here.
