Foundations Seminar: Human Rights and the Duty to Accommodate

Register

Human rights complaints and accusations of discrimination can be some of the most complex issues employers face. How an employer initially responds can have significant reputational, cultural, and legal implications. Navigating the BC Human Rights Tribunal process poses its own unique challenges. With the stakes this high – organizations must be prepared.

This foundations seminar provides a comprehensive overview of the human rights process and an employer’s duty to accommodate. Participants will acquire the knowledge and tools to address common challenges that arise for employers, including:

  • Awareness of when the duty to accommodate arises
  • Determining when the point of undue hardship has been met
  • Imposing discipline in the face of non-culpable behaviours
  • Navigating the human rights complaint process

Who should attend?

This seminar is suitable for human resource professionals and members of management who may receive complaints of discrimination or requests for accommodation from subordinate employees. The workshop is relevant to both unionized and non-unionized workforces.

Learning format and materials

This seminar will be completed over a 5-hour in-person session and will incorporate case studies and hypothetical scenarios to provide participants with the opportunity to apply their learnings.

The Chartered Professionals in Human Resources of British Columbia and Yukon (CPHR BC) has pre-approved this seminar for 5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours.
