Hiring Without Risk

The hiring process provides an opportunity to enhance an organization’s value through the strategic selection of a candidate with valued experience, skills and other qualities. It is also a process fraught with potential legal sinkholes and sand traps.

This course will enable attendees to identify key issues that arise in hiring, including hiring union or exempt positions, and provide them with helpful guidance to avoid future liability. From identification of a vacancy, through to job posting and the offer letter, participants will learn how to manage potential risks, including:

  • Decision making about the existence of a vacancy;
  • Contents of the posting, with consideration to collective agreements and/or human rights;
  • Challenges in the selection process, including tests and interviews; and
  • Pre-hire medicals, fitness testing and reference checks.

Harris’ Foundations courses empower attendees with the skills and knowledge to tackle their daily workplace law challenges. Providing an introductory overview on integral topics like Human Rights, Collective Bargaining and Privacy, Foundations courses have been developed for new managers and department heads, junior HR professionals, and executives looking to better understand an employer’s legal obligations in the workplace.
