August 28, 2003
Share

On August 12, 2003, the B.C. Government announced the appointment of a nine-member Industry Training Authority. Under Bill 34, the Industry Training Authority Act, the new Authority will replace the Industry Training and Apprenticeship Commission. The Authority will be responsible for increasing the quality and quantity of training and apprenticeships in the trades and technical sectors to address a shortage of qualified workers. Further, the Authority intends to provide guidance to employers so that they may play a larger role in the process, thereby increasing the numbers of apprentices and trainees in areas of high demand. The improved system promises greater flexibility for both employers and apprentices with respect to training.
