BC Education Minister Joy MacPhail made a surprise announcement

BC Education Minister Joy MacPhail made a surprise announcement regarding the user pay CHILD Program currently being offered in three West Vancouver School District schools. The half day program supplements kindergarten. MacPhail announced that the government would take steps to outlaw such programs. The announcement was made at the BC Teachers’ Federation annual meeting. The West Vancouver School Board was not given prior notice of the government’s intention. The School Board developed the program in order to reduce a significant loss of students to private schools which offer all day kindergarten on a user pay basis.
