New minimum wage takes effect June 1, 2018

On June 1, 2018, changes to the Employment Standards Regulations dealing with minimum wage took effect.

As of that date, the general minimum wage is $12.65 per hour.

The government of British Columbia has stated that the general minimum wage will continue to increase according to the following schedule until 2021:

  • June 1, 2019 – $13.85 per hour;
  • June 1, 2020 – $14.60 per hour; and
  • June 1, 2021 – $15.20 per hour.

Liquor servers also received an increase to $11.40 per hour on June 1, 2018, and will continue to receive increases according to the following schedule until they are paid the same general minimum wage:

  • June 1, 2019 – $12.70 per hour;
  • June 1, 2020 – $13.95 per hour; and
  • June 1, 2021 – $15.20 per hour.
