Nazeer Mitha presented with the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award

The Vancouver Bar Association has presented Harris partner Nazeer Mitha with the Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award. Awarded annually, the recognition was announced at the VBA’s Annual General Meeting on November 24, 2016.

The Peter S. Hyndman Mentorship Award is conferred to a lawyer who distinguishes themselves by passing on their legal knowledge and acumen, ethical conduct, and professionalism to those they work with. Unbeknownst to Naz, he was nominated by his several of his colleagues at the firm.

Though each supporting letter included ample mention of Naz’s legal expertise and skill, his respect for and genuine interest in his coworkers stood out as one of his most valued attributes. Despite his own demanding schedule, Naz is incredibly generous with his time and is committed to the legal education of junior team members.

In support of his nomination, partner Dianne Rideout wrote, “When working with Naz, I have never felt that I was working ‘for’ him- he has always treated me as an equal team member with valid ideas and strategies that are worthy of consideration. This in turn has made me feel respected, valued, and more confident as a lawyer.”

Naz is “unquestionably a brilliant lawyer, but he is also a teacher, a sounding board, a resource, a trusted confidant, and a friend” stated Nicole Toye.

“Importantly, Naz also challenges junior lawyers, and pushes us to be the best lawyers we can be,” explains associate Erin White. “Naz seeks out opportunities for junior lawyers to gain experience in hearings and to improve our legal skills, but is careful to keep a watchful eye and provide support if needed.”

Naz Mitha graduated from the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University in 1992 and started his career at a national law firm before joining Harris & Company 15 years ago. He is a valuable member of the Harris family and the entire firm offers their sincere congratulations on this significant achievement.
